Zelensky promised a “civilized response” to neighbors who oppose Ukrainian grain exports

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has voiced an important point in the issue of grain supplies from Ukraine to the EU, promising a “civilized response” to neighbors who make “non-neighborly” decisions. The Ukrainian president wrote about this in Telegram after the EC’s decision to lift restrictions on the access of Ukrainian agricultural products to the EU market.

He noted that he was grateful to President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen for keeping her word.

“I have just spoken with President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen… I am sincerely grateful to Ursula von der Leyen for keeping her word and the rules of the free market. This is an example of true unity and trust between Ukraine and the EU,” Zelenskyy emphasized.

He added that Europe always wins when the rules work and the agreements are implemented.

“Now it is important that European unity works at the bilateral level. We need our neighbors to support Ukraine in times of war. And if their decisions violate the EU law, Ukraine will respond in a civilized manner,” the Head of State noted.

Today, on September 15, the European Commission lifted restrictions on the import of grain from Ukraine to Poland, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and Slovakia.

At the same time, according to the EC’s decision, Ukraine will have to fulfill certain conditions and submit an action plan no later than September 18. In particular, from September 16 to 18, Ukraine must take effective measures to control the export of 4 groups of goods to prevent their impact on the markets of neighboring EU member states.

Thus, on September 15, the ban on imports of corn, wheat, rapeseed and sunflower seeds from Ukraine to Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia expires.

It is known that most of these countries plan to continue blocking imports of Ukrainian products. At the same time, Bulgaria has already lifted its ban on grain imports from Ukraine after September 15.
