US increased wheat production, especially durum
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. farmers increased wheat production to 1.97 billion bushels (53.62 million tons) this year, up 9% from last year. This is reported by the agency Zerno On-line with reference to the National Agricultural Statistics Service under the U.S. Department of Agriculture (NASS).
Milling winter wheat production rose 9% to 1.35 billion bushels, soft spring wheat production rose 8% to 542 million bushels, and durum production rose 35% to 80.1 million bushels.
Wheat stocks as of Sept. 1 totaled 1.99 billion bushels, up 12% from a year earlier. Farmers held 664 million bushels of wheat (+11% year-over-year).
