Ukraine can increase grain exports to 4.5 mln tonnes per month under the condition of subsidizing logistics – UGA
Already next month, Ukraine will be able to increase the export of grain and oilseeds from the current 2 mln tonnes per month to 3 mln tonnes, and soon to 4.5 mln tonnes. Said Mykola Gorbachov, President of the Ukrainian Grain Association (UGA), in a comment to “Voice of America”.
“Ukraine can already export about 2 mln tonnes of grains and oilseeds every month through the Danube ports. Hopefully next month we will have record shipments and we will see a figure of 3 mln tonnes. We can also export grain through the infrastructure of Europe by rail and road transport. This allows Ukraine to export about 3.5 mln tonnes per month, and in the near future, with improvement, exports will amount to 4.5 mln tonnes per month,” the expert said.
At the same time, the president of UGA emphasized that to achieve the indicated indicators, it is extremely important for Ukraine to solve the issue of lowering the cost of logistics.
“If we do not make it cheaper for our agricultural producers, who work without any subsidies, they can reduce the planting area next season. In this case, there will be no problem: Ukraine will remain with grain, and the world will remain without Ukrainian grain,” M. Gorbachov emphasized.
In his opinion, developed countries will pay for Ukraine’s inability to export grains with food inflation, and developing countries will not have enough opportunities to purchase “such jewels as corn and wheat.”
