Rains continue to hamper soybean harvest progress in Brazil
The harvest of the new Brazilian soybean season had moderate progress in the country last week. The rains continue to hamper work in some states of the Midwest, Southeast and Northeast. In Minas Gerais, out of a total area estimated at 2 mln hectares, 17% were reaped, or around 340 thousand hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 8%. In the same period of the previous year, the index was 9%. The five-year average for the period is 14.8%.

Weather reports indicate the persistence of a very moist climate over the Midwest, Southeast, North and parts of the Northeast in the period between February 18 and 24, with the highest accumulations being expected for the states of Mato Grosso, Goiás, Minas Gerais, São Paulo, Tocantins, Pará, and western Bahia. In such circumstances, the harvest must continue with difficulty in these regions. In Brazil’s South and in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, little moisture is expected during this period.
Between February 25 and March 3, accumulated precipitation tends to decrease, and higher moisture is expected in the South of the country.
