It will be cooler in the USA, but without precipitation, and Ukraine needs rains for sowing
Hot and dry weather will continue in the US Midwest for a few more days. Michigan and Ohio received rain the other day, which will spread to the southern regions by the weekend. Intermittent precipitation will continue through Tuesday, after which temperatures will return to above normal, adversely affecting soybean and corn fill.
In the Central and Southern Plains, hot weather without precipitation will continue for several more days, adding stress to soybean and corn crops and reducing soil moisture reserves. A front will bring moderate temperatures and scattered precipitation from Friday, but heat will return to the region next week.
In the Canadian Prairies, the intensity of precipitation has increased, which is favorable for soybean and corn crops, although it will delay the harvest of canola and spring wheat, which is threshed in 5-10% of the area.
In southern Brazil, where wheat is grown, favorable weather conditions prevailed during the winter, but rains damaged the yet-to-be-harvested safrinha corn crop.
Argentina has been experiencing a year-round rainfall deficit, and dry weather will continue next week. A front may bring rain at the end of the week, but they will not be able to significantly replenish soil moisture reserves ahead of soybean and corn planting.
The heat in Europe will be replaced by a cool front with precipitation, favorable for the filling of soybeans and corn. Most of the early grain harvest has already been harvested.
In Ukraine, despite the prolonged heat, agrometeorological conditions remain satisfactory for the vegetation of late crops and harvesting of early crops. The decrease in productive moisture reserves made it difficult to prepare the soil for sowing and led to daytime wilting of corn and premature yellowing of soybean leaves.
As of August 20, in most oblasts, the reserves of productive moisture were insufficient, sometimes unsatisfactory, and only in some areas of the western and northern oblasts and Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, Kharkiv Oblast, and Poltava Oblast – sufficient or optimal.
