International Maritime Organization will work to strengthen the security of the Ukrainian corridor
The International Maritime Organization intends to work on strengthening the security of the Ukrainian temporary maritime corridor. This was reported by the Ministry of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure of Ukraine.
During a visit to Ukraine, a delegation of representatives of the organization’s member states – Estonia, Lithuania, Moldova and Belgium – met with representatives of the Ministry, the Ukrainian Navy, the Seaport Authority, the Shipping Administration, the Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company and other industry officials.
The main topics of the talks included a package of proposals for international technical assistance for the safe operation of Ukraine’s maritime sector, its recovery in the post-war period, and the results of the Ukrainian Corridor.
“In seven months of operation, this logistics route has exceeded the volume of cargo transportation of the Grain Initiative and reached the export figures for 2021 from the ports of Greater Odesa – almost 40 million tons,” the statement said.
Representatives of the International Maritime Organization delegation were also shown the consequences of Russia’s constant attacks on maritime and port infrastructure in the ports of Odesa, Yuzhne and Izmail.
