Turkey returns to buying Romanian rapeseed

Romania is strengthening its position in the regional rapeseed market thanks to a strong harvest and increased demand amid supply difficulties in other parts of the Black Sea region. Shipments through the port of Constanta remain high, while Turkey’s return to the market has boosted trade in Romanian rapeseed.

Last season, Turkish buyers focused primarily on Ukrainian rapeseed. This season, Romanian producers and traders are capturing a larger share of demand, supported by the country’s geographical position and the port infrastructure in Constanta.

Growing trade is strengthening Constanta’s role as a regional hub for oilseeds and vegetable oils. The port provides access to international markets for cargoes from the Black Sea and Danube regions and allows shipments to be increased quickly.

Some of the new trade relationships could remain in place even after Ukrainian exports recover if Romanian suppliers can maintain stable supply chains. This could support Romania’s position in the regional rapeseed market over the longer term.

At the same time, the outlook for Romania’s 2027 rapeseed crop remains uncertain due to a lack of soil moisture. Insufficient rainfall could complicate land preparation and winter rapeseed planting, making weather conditions in the coming period crucial for planted area and future supply.
