Grain harvest in EU and UK in 2024 will be less than in 2023
In 2024, the grain harvest in the EU and the UK will amount to 281.7 million tons, 5.4 million tons less than in 2023, according to the forecast of the European Association of Agricultural Traders COCERAL.
Wheat production, excluding durum, is forecast to decline to 134.2 million tons from 139.5 million tons in 2023.
COCERAL reports that autumn and rains have reduced the area under winter crops in France, Germany, the UK, the Baltic states and Poland. At the same time, Spain is expected to increase production significantly in 2023.
The forecast of barley harvest in the EU and the UK in 2024 is 56.1 mln tons. In 2023, barley was harvested at 54.1 mln tons. In Denmark, Finland and Spain, the barley harvest will be higher than in 2023, according to COCERAL.
The preliminary forecast for corn production in the EU and the UK in 2024 is 57.1 million tons. This year, 61.6 million tons of corn were produced. The forecast for rapeseed has been increased from 7.5 million tons to 11.3 million tons.
