Ukraine–Turkey FTA to be signed in 2022, Shmyhal believes
Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal believes that Ukraine and Turkey will ink a free trade agreement next year.
“I strongly believe that we will sign this agreement next year. The visit of the President of Turkey to Ukraine is scheduled for February. I think that we will approach a balanced agreement by then,” Shmyhal said at a gala event “Ukraine and the World Ahead 2022”, organized by Novoe Vremya media outlet on December 16, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.
According to the PM, trade and economic relations between Ukraine and Turkey are “developing rapidly” and the Ukrainian side has made political efforts for finalizing and signing a joint trade agreement.
As reported, Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba stated in June that Ukraine and Turkey had to take the last step before concluding the free trade agreement, the most important and sensitive at the same time. Such a step requires a compromise on both sides. In September, Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine, Ambassador of Ukraine to Turkey Vasyl Bodnar said that agricultural and metal products are the most disputable points during the Ukraine–Turkey FTA discussions.
