Ukraine completes EU legislative screening on Agriculture and Rural Development
Ukraine has completed the legislative screening under Chapter 11 “Agriculture and Rural Development” as part of accession negotiations with the European Union. The final screening meetings between the Ukrainian delegation and the European Commission took place in Brussels.
The delegation was led by Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine, Taras Kachka, and included Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture, Denys Bashlyk. Over three days, Ukraine presented 28 thematic blocks covering reforms in agriculture, digitalization, state support, market regulation, and rural development.
The screening also showcased the degree of alignment of Ukrainian legislation with the EU acquis in areas such as financial and administrative structures, agricultural markets, quality policy, organic production, and the promotion of agricultural products. The European Commission welcomed the presented materials and noted Ukraine’s progress.
“These discussions highlighted two key points: we have already made significant progress in aligning agricultural policy with EU standards, but there is still much work ahead. The accession process requires joint efforts and close coordination. Ukraine is ready to follow this path,” concluded Denys Bashlyk.
For reference, on July 8, official legislative screening began in Brussels in the field of energy — the first of the key stages in Ukraine’s EU accession negotiations.
Further development of the grain and oilseed markets of Ukraine and the Black Sea region will be in the spotlight of the BLACK SEA GRAIN. KYIV conference, taking place on April 22–23 in Kyiv. The event will focus on strategic directions for the agricultural sector through 2030, including investments, energy independence, processing, and exports of high-value products.
