Ukraine is currently not considering scrapping the export duty on sunflower seed. The main discussion is focused on a possible revision of export duties on rapeseed and soybeans, Agriculture Minister Taras Vysotsky said.

According to him, the relevant parliamentary subcommittee continues to review bills No. 15522 and No. 15522-1, which propose temporarily reducing export duties on oilseeds to zero. However, the main industry associations have not yet reached a common position on rapeseed and soybeans, so consultations are continuing.

The Agriculture Ministry sees no economic justification for removing the duty on sunflower seed. Vysotsky cited the crop’s logistics characteristics, noting that sunflower seed is relatively bulky, making exports of processed products more efficient for the economy.

The minister also noted that Ukraine’s sunflower processing industry continues to operate effectively under the current system. Ukrainian exporters pay a 10% domestic duty on sunflower seed exports, while the EU does not impose an import duty on sunflower seed from Ukraine.

Discussions over a possible revision of duties on rapeseed and soybeans are continuing. According to Vysotsky, a final decision is expected only after the main market participants reach a coordinated position.
