Brazil has overtaken Canada to become the world’s third-largest pork exporter, behind only the European Union and the United States. According to Rabobank’s World Pork Map 2026, the country has strengthened its position thanks to competitive production costs and an expanding range of export destinations.

The EU remains the world’s largest pork exporter for now, although the gap with the US is gradually narrowing. Rabobank expects stricter environmental requirements, tighter animal welfare standards and rising production costs to limit further growth in European pork production and exports.

Against this backdrop, the US has the potential to become the world’s largest pork exporter over time. However, trade tensions between the US and China are currently supporting the competitiveness of European suppliers and slowing this shift.

Brazil has been actively diversifying its exports in recent years as Chinese import demand has declined. The Philippines has become one of its key markets and is now the largest buyer of Brazilian pork. In 2025, shipments to the country increased by more than 30%.

Rabobank believes that Brazil’s successful shift toward emerging markets is reducing its dependence on China and strengthening its position in global pork trade. Competition among the EU, the US and Brazil is continuing to intensify.
