The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to suspend the annual tariff quota on beef imports. The executive order was initially expected to be signed on May 11, but its issuance has reportedly been delayed, according to media reports.

The first report on the White House’s plan was published by The Wall Street Journal. Later, Politico reported that the administration is considering a suspension of beef import quotas for up to 200 days, which could significantly reshape trade conditions in the meat market.

Major U.S. beef suppliers include Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and Mexico. Last year, livestock associations raised concerns over expanded access for Argentine beef to the U.S. market.

Agricultural groups argue that such measures could increase pressure on domestic producers. At the same time, the USDA projects U.S. beef imports to reach 5.8 billion pounds, up 6% compared to 2025.

Separately, the U.S. administration is also considering an antitrust investigation into major meatpacking companies amid rising beef prices driven by lower cattle inventories and strong consumer demand.
