The difference between feed and milling wheat in Ukraine reached a record $32
As of August 12, the price difference between feed and milling wheat in Ukraine was 1,350 UAH/t ($32) — a record for the season. This was reported by broker Volodymyr Levkovsky.
The reason for this spread is the weather, which affected the quality of the harvest: a significant part of the high-quality wheat lost its quality characteristics and went into the feed grade. As a result, the market received a large amount of feed wheat, which caused its price to drop significantly, while the supply of high-quality wheat decreased, maintaining a high premium for quality.
Experts advise farmers who have feed wheat to hold onto the goods until the market “digests” the excess supply. Instead, high-quality wheat should be sold now, while its price remains high.
