Taiwan invokes special safeguards for chicken, pork imports – GAIN
On September 26 and September 28, 2023, Taiwan notified the WTO that it was invoking volume-based special safeguards on imports of other chicken cuts and pork belly, respectively, according to a recent US Department of Agriculture (USDA) Global Agricultural Information Network (GAIN) report.
Between January 1 and September 5, 2023, Taiwan imported 9,211.2 MT of other chicken cuts. Between January 1 and September 11, 2023, Taiwan imported 15,160 MT of pork belly. Both of these volumes exceed the specified trigger levels for the activation of the special safeguards.
Accordingly, Taiwan will impose additional duties, equivalent to an additional one third of the normal duties, from the date of the activation until December 31, 2023.
