Strategie Grains raised the forecast of corn harvest in the EU in MY 2024/25
Analysts of Strategie Grains increased the forecast of corn harvest in the EU in MY 2024/25 by 0.2 mln tonnes to 58.1 mln tonnes, which is still lower than last year’s 62.9 mln tonnes.
While in Romania the harvest is expected to be lower than usual due to prolonged drought, in France heavy rains (which resulted in the worst wheat harvest in 40 years) accelerated the development of corn crops, although it delayed the harvest.
According to FranceAgriMer monitoring, as of October 7, corn was harvested on 6% of the planned areas in France.
The forecast of wheat production in the EU was left at 114.4 mln tonnes, which will be the lowest in the last 12 years, as prolonged rains reduced the harvest in Germany and France. Accordingly, wheat exports from the EU will decrease to 6-year low.
The forecast of barley harvest in the EU increased compared to September estimates by 0.1 to 50.6 million tons, indicating a gradual recovery of production after the worst in the last 12 years in the 2023/24 season.
