Kazakhstan is expecting a favorable sunflower harvest in 2026, according to a preliminary agro-meteorological outlook released by Kazhydromet.
According to the forecast, soil moisture reserves were generally satisfactory and in some areas optimal, although a lack of moisture was observed mainly in the topsoil layer. Overall, weather conditions at the beginning of the growing season were sufficient for the normal development of sunflower crops.
During the second decade of June, sunflower fields were at growth stages ranging from the “second pair of leaves” to the “appearance of inflorescences.” Crop conditions were assessed as good to excellent in most regions, indicating stable plant development.
In July, temperature levels and precipitation in key sunflower-growing areas are expected to remain close to seasonal norms. Such conditions are likely to support seed formation and maturation.
According to Kazhydromet’s preliminary calculations, yields in several regions are expected to be at or above long-term averages. In Kostanay region, some districts may exceed historical norms, while Pavlodar is expected to remain near average levels. East Kazakhstan and Abai regions are also projected to see yields at or above normal levels, depending on local conditions. The forecast remains preliminary and may be adjusted based on further weather developments.
