Global rapeseed meal consumption to hit record high in 2026/26

The global rapeseed meal market has experienced robust demand growth amid record oilseed processing volumes. According to Oil World (Germany), global rapeseed meal consumption increased by approximately 0.9 million tonnes from October 2025 to March 2026 compared to the same period in the previous season.

The European Union remains the main growth driver, with active rapeseed processing driving a significant increase in meal use. Preliminary estimates indicate that consumption has increased by 0.8 million tonnes since the start of the 2025/26 marketing year. Furthermore, following the lifting of restrictions on Canadian imports, demand for the product has resumed in China.

Analysts expect global rapeseed meal consumption to reach a new all-time high of 47.2 million tonnes in the 2025/26 season (an increase of 2 million tonnes per year). Specifically, global demand is expected to increase by another 1-1.1 million tonnes from April to September of this year, with almost half of this increase expected in the EU, where consumption could increase by 0.5 million tonnes.

The combination of high oilseed processing volumes, strong demand from the livestock industry, and renewed consumption in China are creating favorable conditions for further strengthening the global rapeseed meal market.
