Georgia is set to begin its wheat harvest within the next 7–10 days, with total production expected to remain close to last year’s level of around 200,000 tonnes. However, the share of food-grade wheat is likely to decrease this season due to adverse weather conditions, which may affect overall grain quality.

According to Levan Silagava, Executive Director of the Georgian Wheat and Flour Association, delayed harvesting caused by unstable weather is expected to impact grain maturation. As a result, a larger portion of the crop may be classified as feed wheat rather than milling-quality grain.

At the same time, local flour mills are prepared to purchase domestic food-grade wheat from farmers. The association is expected to publish a list of mills that will accept the new harvest. Silagava also noted that no significant increase in imported wheat prices is anticipated in the coming months, as strong harvests in major producing regions continue to support stable regional supply.

The expected purchase price for locally produced wheat is around GEL 0.60 per kilogram. Silagava explained that domestic prices are closely tied to imported wheat values, since Georgian mills rely on a blend of local and imported grain. Despite rising production costs for farmers, pricing remains largely determined by market conditions.

Official data show that Georgia imported 142,671 tonnes of wheat worth $36.7 million in the first five months of 2026, down 7% year-on-year. Russia remained the dominant supplier, accounting for more than 90% of total imports at 128,405 tonnes worth $33.3 million.
