EU transitional measures for Ukrainian agriculture must not become permanent barriers – Koretskyi
Ukraine recognizes European farmers’ concerns about granting the Ukrainian agricultural sector full access to the EU single market and is ready for open and substantive discussions on transitional measures for agriculture.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi made the statement in a video address to participants of the EU Enlargement Summit in Brussels.
“Transitional measures can be part of the enlargement process, but they must address specific risks,” the Prime Minister said, emphasizing that Ukraine is ready for constructive dialogue and understands the concerns of European farmers.
He stressed that such measures must include clearly defined conditions for their termination.
“They cannot become permanent barriers to meaningful participation in the single market. Ukrainian farmers will make significant investments to comply with EU standards while rebuilding the country following Russian attacks,” Koretskyi explained.
According to the Ukrainian Prime Minister, Ukraine’s accession will bring new opportunities to the European Union, strengthening competition, food security, agricultural processing, bioenergy, and European supply chains.
“Enlargement is a two-way process. Ukraine will bring real benefits to the European Union: hard-earned security experience, defense innovations, digital capabilities, agricultural potential, and people who understand the true value of freedom,” Koretskyi added.
