The European Commission on Tuesday expressed concern over China’s newly announced duties on EU pork imports, adding that the Chinese investigation was based on “questionable allegations and insufficient evidence”.

“The Commission is examining the provisional definitive duties announced and is carefully assessing all the information available against compliance with WTO rules,” the commission also said in a statement.

China will impose tariffs of between 4.9% and 19.8% on pork imports from the bloc for a five-year period starting on Wednesday, lower than the 15.6%-62.4% imposed in a preliminary decision in September.
