Brazil’s wheat production doubled in 5 years
Brazil’s wheat production almost doubled in 5 years. At the same time, imports decreased to 5 million tons in the 2022/23 season from 7 million tons in the 2018/19 season, while exports increased to 2.7 million tons from 0.6 million tons.
However, Brazil does not produce wheat gluten, so all of the volume consumed is imported. In the country, over 90% of all wheat gluten is used to produce pet food. The feed market is estimated at 3.9 million tons with a value of $6.9 billion. Major international producers of feed for non-productive animals are planning to localize their production in Brazil, which contributes to the growth of supplies to other South American countries.
