Brazil guarantees EU compliance with antimicrobial standards to restore access to meat market
The Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA) announced that Brazil, through the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA) and with the support of the private sector, will provide the European Union with the necessary technical clarifications on its antimicrobial regulations to restore its position on the list of countries eligible for export.
Brazil’s exports are not suspended. The list of non-compliant countries will be published after the official announcement and will take effect on September 3. The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries (MAPA) is already in discussions with European authorities to ensure companies comply with EU protocols and official oversight of both export markets and domestic consumption.
According to ABPA, Brazil is fully compliant with EU requirements, including those related to the regulation of antimicrobial use. The industry emphasizes that the country has robust sanitary control structures with traceability protocols, veterinary surveillance, and responsible use of medicinal products, all in line with international animal health and food safety standards.
Abpa will coordinate monitoring of this issue with Brazilian authorities, providing technical information and guarantees required by European authorities.
Access to one of the world’s largest markets will now be determined by compliance with strict standards for the use of antibiotics in livestock production.
