A ban has been imposed on the import of wheat into Kazakhstan, in particular from the EAEU member states by road, water and rail. Order No. 125 of April 11, 2024 on the introduction of the ban was signed by the Minister of Agriculture.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan, the temporary ban is effective from April 12, 2024 for a period of 6 months.

It is noted that the ban does not apply to the transit transportation of wheat through the territory of Kazakhstan by rail, as well as to the import of wheat for flour mills and poultry enterprises. Imported wheat is not subject to sale on the domestic and foreign markets, the Ministry of Agriculture added.

As a reminder, Kazakhstan imposed a ban on the import of Russian wheat by road on April 10, 2023 for six months. The reason is the flow of smuggled goods from Russia. Russia simply flooded Kazakhstan with its cheap grain, which led to huge losses. After that, in October 2023, the ban was extended, plus a ban on imports by rail was added, except for poultry farms, flour mills and licensed elevators.
