Asia retains global feed market leadership in 2025 amid robust growth
Asia will retain its status as the world’s largest compound feed producing region in 2025, reaching 559.3 million tonnes, according to Alltech’s Agri-Food Outlook 2026 report.
China remained the undisputed global leader with 330.1 million tonnes, an increase of 4.8%. India ranked second with 57.7 million tonnes. Vietnam and Turkey also demonstrated sustained positive growth, while Japan recorded a slight decline.
In Southeast Asia, demand for compound feed recovered amid an increase in pig herds and rising pork production. The poultry feed segment maintained a strong position despite the ongoing impact of disease outbreaks in some countries in the region.
The key driver of growth in Asia was increased demand for poultry and aquaculture feed. The industry’s transformation toward larger production capacities has played a significant role: in China, for example, the transition from small-scale on-farm feed mixing to industrial production at large feed mills continues. However, as the report notes, growth is uneven and is driven more by improved production efficiency and the modernization of agricultural systems than by an expansion of livestock populations.
