Argentina approaches record beef production
Global demand for beef continues to grow rapidly, creating new opportunities for Argentina’s livestock industry. Rising international prices have become a strong incentive for producers to expand exports and increase production. Analysts believe the country is now moving toward a potential milestone of producing 4 million tons of beef annually.
According to first-quarter results for 2026, exports of chilled boneless beef cuts increased by 12%, while export revenue surged by 34%. The average price per ton climbed from $9,507 to $12,710 compared to the same period last year. Overall, this segment generated $358 million in foreign currency earnings for Argentina.
The strongest growth was recorded in frozen bone-in beef cuts, where prices jumped by nearly 48%, rising from $1,725 to $2,548 per ton. Meanwhile, frozen boneless beef remains the country’s main export category, generating more than $603 million in revenue during the first quarter.
The United States has become one of the key drivers of export growth after expanding its preferential import quota for Argentine beef. American buyers purchased more than 20,000 tons during the first three months of the year. Demand from Israel and several European countries also increased significantly, with Germany and the Netherlands remaining among the leading markets.
Industry experts note that further growth in beef production may be achieved even without expanding cattle numbers. The main opportunities lie in increasing slaughter weights and improving production efficiency. These factors could help Argentina strengthen its position in the global beef market and move closer to the historic target of 4 million tons of production.
