Thanks to the new shipping corridor in the Black Sea, Ukraine has already exported almost 15 million tons of cargo. The main importers are China and Egypt. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Yuriy Vaskov.

“According to the results of the Ukrainian grain corridor, 27 countries have received our products. As of today, it is almost 15 million tons, which were exported by 469 vessels. For example, 33% of the cargo went to China, 11% to Egypt, 4% to Indonesia, and 2% to Turkey. Vessels from the ports of Greater Odesa went directly to these countries,” Vaskov noted.

The deputy minister added that at the beginning of the new corridor, vessels that were blocked in Odesa ports due to the war and did not fall under the grain initiative left the ports.

“In mid-September, the first ships loaded with Ukrainian grain entered the Black Sea port. After that, even more cargo and ship owners confirmed their readiness to work because they were convinced that the Ukrainian corridor was operational,” Vaskov said.

He also noted that inspectors from the International Maritime Organization are due to visit Ukraine soon to make sure that Ukraine is using its ports and sea lanes for the transportation of exclusively civilian commercial cargo, primarily agricultural products.

Prior to the large-scale invasion, nearly 60% of Ukraine’s trade and 80% of its agricultural exports were transported through seaports.

Updated: Since August 2023, one million tons of agricultural products have been exported through the temporary export sea corridor, according to Recovery Minister Oleksandr Kubrakov.
