2021/22 Brazil Soybeans 77% Harvested, Up 6% For The Week
The 2021/22 soybeans in Brazil were 77% harvested as of late last week compared to 79% last year according to AgResource Brasil. This represents an advance of 6% for the week.
Mato Grosso – The soybeans in Mato Grosso were 99.6% harvested as of late last week compared to 97.1% last year and 98.0% average according to the Mato Grosso Institute of Agricultural Economics (Imea).
Parana – The soybeans in Parana were 75% harvested as of earlier last week according to the Department of Rural Economics (Deral). The soybeans remaining in the field were rated 16% poor, 29% fair, and 55% good.
Rio Grande do Sul – Rio Grande do Sul is one of the last major soybean producing states in Brazil to harvest soybeans and the crop was 14% harvested as of late last week according to Emater. This represents an advance of 5% for the week. The remainder of the soybeans in the state are rated 1% in vegetative development, 7% flowering, 44% filling pods, and 34% maturing. The average statewide yield is estimated at 1,460 kg/ha (21.7 bu/ac), which is down 55% from initial estimates.
Minas Gerais – The weather this growing season in the state of Minas Gerais in east-central Brazil was excessively wet with extended periods of heavy overcast skies and scant sunshine during the months of November and December. Farmers were concerned that the lack of sunshine could negatively impact their soybean yields, but it looks like soybean yields in the state will be on par with last year.
According to the president of Aprosoja/MG, farmers in the state have harvested 80% of their 2021/22 soybeans with yields in the range of 59 to 62 sacks per hectare (52.7 to 55.4 bu/ac). Domestic soybean prices are strong and farmers are expected to make good profits on their 2021/22 soybeans. Farmers are concerned though about the high cost and availability of fertilizers and other inputs for the 2022/23 crop they will plant later this year.
