World sugar surplus will exceed 1.6 mln tons
The International Sugar Organization (ISO) forecasts a global sugar surplus of 1.625 million tonnes in the MY 2025/26.
The main factor in the revision of the balance was the expected increase in global sugar production to 181.767 million tonnes, which is 5.552 million tonnes more than last season. The increase in global sugar production is expected due to increased production in India, Thailand and Pakistan.
According to expert forecasts, global sugar consumption in the 2025/26 season will reach 180.142 million tonnes, which is 1.011 million tonnes more than the previous season.
According to ISO estimates, the ratio of ending sugar stocks to consumption in the 2025/26 season will decrease to 52.74% compared to 53.12% in the previous season.
According to the latest ISO estimate, in the MY 2024/25, the global sugar balance deficit decreased to 2.916 million tons, due to improved harvests in the main producing countries of the Southern Hemisphere.
