Kazakhstan increased vegetable oil exports by 46.2% y/y in January–June 2026 to 560.6 thsd tons. At the same time, domestic sales fell by 24.5% to 121.1 thsd tons, Qazinform reported, citing EnergyProm data.

Sunflower oil accounted for the bulk of overseas shipments. Its exports rose by 41.2% to 481 thsd tons, while domestic sales declined by 28% to 83.9 thsd tons. The value of sunflower oil exports in the first half of the year reached $533 mln.

The export growth came amid higher production. In January–July, Kazakhstan produced 673.2 thsd tons of refined and unrefined vegetable oils, up 29.1% from a year earlier. Unrefined sunflower oil output increased by 29.4% to 473.1 thsd tons, while refined sunflower oil production rose by 13.5% to 104.8 thsd tons.

Refined rapeseed oil recorded the strongest growth, with output nearly doubling to 60.2 thsd tons. At the same time, soybean oil production fell by 9.2% to 7.9 thsd tons, while cottonseed oil output dropped by 29.7% to 3.3 thsd tons.

The expansion in processing is being supported by higher oilseed production. Kazakhstan harvested a record 4.9 mln tons of oilseeds in 2025, while planted area increased by 30% in 2026 to 5.2 mln ha. Sunflower area reached a record 2.2 mln ha, up 25% y/y.
