Winter wheat accounts for the largest area so far, with 8.9 thsd ha planted, or 0.3% of the forecast. Planting has already started in Ivano-Frankivsk and Kherson regions. Winter barley has been planted on 0.7 thsd ha and rye on 0.5 thsd ha.

This year, the winter grain planting campaign started earlier than last year. As of early September 2025, Ukrainian farmers had not yet begun planting winter grains.

Meanwhile, winter rapeseed planting is progressing much faster. As of September 1, farmers had planted 445.3 thsd ha, equivalent to 47.7% of the projected 933.8 thsd ha.

Overall, Ukraine plans to plant around 3.88 mln ha of winter grains for the 2027 harvest. The bulk of fieldwork is expected to take place in September and October as optimal planting windows begin across the regions.
