Winter crop sowing in Europe overall doing well — MARS
Favorable weather conditions across Europe — from France to Poland and from Scandinavia to Italy — have supported timely sowing, good emergence, and early development of winter crops, according to the European MARS agency.
However, excessive soil moisture in parts of Bulgaria and Romania has delayed winter cereal sowing, while in Portugal, Spain, eastern Croatia, and Hungary, sowing was postponed due to persistently dry soils. Rainfall is expected in these regions in the coming weeks to ensure uniform crop emergence. The harvest of late spring crops is ongoing, and yields for most EU countries are expected to be at or above average, except for corn and sunflower seeds in Southeastern Europe, where yields are projected to fall by -3% and -10%, respectively.
