US may begin military escort of ships through Strait of Hormuz -Trump
US President Donald Trump has declared his readiness to guarantee the safety of maritime transport through the Strait of Hormuz. His words are quoted by Reuters.
According to the American leader, with immediate effect, he instructed the US Development Finance Corporation to provide political risk insurance and financial guarantees for maritime transport, primarily energy carriers, passing through the Persian Gulf.
Trump stressed that Washington is ready to involve the armed forces to ensure uninterrupted transit through strategically important waterways.
“If necessary, the US Navy will begin escorting tankers through the Strait of Hormuz as soon as possible. Regardless of the circumstances, the United States will ensure the free flow of energy to the world,” he said.
The president emphasized that the goal of these steps is the stability of global energy markets and the prevention of disruptions in oil supplies.
