Grain could be discussed at trilateral talks between Ukraine, US and Russia – Zelenskyy
Grain could become one of the topics of future trilateral talks between Ukraine, the US and Russia. Other potential issues include energy and humanitarian matters, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on September 8. According to him, the talks should lead to concrete results.
A potential trilateral meeting could take place in the United Arab Emirates, Switzerland, Turkey or another country. Ukraine has received relevant invitations and has experience in hosting international negotiations.
At the same time, Zelenskyy did not specify which grain-related issues could be discussed. In particular, it remains unclear whether the talks would cover Black Sea shipping security, port infrastructure or other mechanisms to facilitate grain exports.
Preparations for the trilateral format intensified following talks between US representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner and the Russian and Ukrainian sides. Following a meeting in Kyiv, Zelenskyy confirmed the resumption of the negotiation process, while the US side said work was underway to organize trilateral talks.
Grain trade could therefore become a separate part of the future negotiation process. No specific proposals or potential agreements regarding grain have been announced so far.
