Ukraine is negotiating with Poland to increase rail transit and expects to raise exports through Polish ports to around 6.5 mln tons. This was stated by Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Vitalii Holovnia during LFM 2026.

According to him, a preliminary agreement has been reached with Poland’s infrastructure minister to increase shipments through four railway border crossings to 600 thsd tons. At the same time, Ukraine expects to reach around 6.5 mln tons of exports through Polish ports during 2026–2027.

Holovnia noted that Polish businesses are interested in handling Ukrainian cargoes, but companies are seeking long-term contracts, including one-year agreements. According to him, initial agreements have already been reached with Polish transport companies and the Port of Gdansk for monthly shipments of 20 thsd tons.

“Gradually, we see that business is also making its way into Poland, so to speak, and I am confident that this is only the beginning and there will be more to come,” the deputy minister said.

Holovnia also said Ukraine expects to expand its export opportunities through Romania. According to him, once the peak period of Romanian crop exports ends in mid-October to November, more capacity could become available for Ukrainian cargoes through the Port of Constanta.
