Ukraine harvests over 5.4 mln tons of grain as northern regions join the campaign
As of July 20, Ukrainian farmers had harvested 5.47 mln tons of grains and pulses from 1.34 mln ha, or 11.4% of the projected area, according to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food. The average yield stands at 4.09 t/ha, while production increased by 2.36 mln tons over the past week.
The harvest includes 2.60 mln tons of wheat from 633.2 thsd ha, 2.56 mln tons of barley from 580.5 thsd ha, 301.4 thsd tons of peas from 121.6 thsd ha, and 429.6 thsd tons of rapeseed from 216.2 thsd ha.
Northern regions are gradually joining the harvest campaign. In Sumy region, farmers have harvested 8.25 thsd tons of grain from 1.7 thsd ha, mainly barley, while in Chernihiv region nearly 2 thsd tons have been collected from the first 0.4 thsd ha.
The largest grain volumes have been harvested in Odesa region (1.6 mln tons), Mykolaiv region (1.3 mln tons), and Dnipropetrovsk region (1.0 mln tons). Together, these three regions account for 71% of Ukraine’s total grain harvest so far. In terms of harvesting progress, Mykolaiv region leads with 49% of the forecast area harvested, followed by Kherson (43%), Dnipropetrovsk (31%), and Odesa (29%).
However, the harvest campaign is still at an early stage, and current yield figures mainly reflect the performance of early crops in southern Ukraine. As wheat harvesting expands across the central, western, and northern regions, the national average yield is expected to change significantly.
