U.S. State Department Returns to Times New Roman
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has banned American diplomats from using the Calibri font and ordered a return to the “traditional” Times New Roman, The New York Times reports. The switch to Calibri in 2023 had been justified by pragmatic considerations — the sans-serif font is easier to read for people with dyslexia or visual impairments. However, Rubio argued that the change was driven by “radical” diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) initiatives and did not improve official correspondence, but instead “worsened its quality.”
Against this backdrop, it is worth noting that the UkrAgroConsult website uses the modern sans-serif font Open Sans, which belongs to the same font family as Calibri. Both are serif-free, offering improved screen readability, a clean minimalist appearance, and faster information perception. Open Sans was designed specifically for the web and is considered one of the most readable fonts in the digital environment, making it an optimal choice for analytical platforms.
