Tenth batch of sunflower seeds imported to Bulgaria failed pesticide testing.
Another ship carrying sunflower seeds from Argentina has docked in Bulgaria, containing pesticides exceeding permitted levels.
A sample was taken on May 8. The analysis revealed the presence of the active ingredients deltamethrin and malathion in quantities exceeding the maximum permitted levels by four and five times, respectively.
The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency stated that products made from such sunflower seeds are prohibited for use in the European Union.
About two weeks ago, the importer reported that approximately a third of the imported sunflower seeds had already been processed into unrefined oil, which was then exported to Egypt and India.
The agency emphasized that it continues to strictly monitor the movement of raw materials and products made from them.
Bulgaria has already imported over 363,000 tons of Argentine sunflower seeds, over 100,000 tons of which failed pesticide testing.
