Taras Vysotsky: Ukraine remains among the leading exporters of grains and oilseeds
Despite two years of war, Ukraine continues to be a reliable exporter of agricultural products and plays an important role in ensuring global food security. Ukrainian farmers harvested a good crop in 2023. This year, it is planned to sow enough to meet the domestic needs of Ukrainians and for export, according to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy.
This was announced by Acting Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Taras Vysotsky during the conference “Global Synergy: Improving and Strengthening Food Security in the Context of the Ukrainian Crisis”. The event was organized by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UCCI).
According to Taras Vysotsky, in 2023, Ukraine harvested more than 80 million tons of grains and oilseeds.
“In 2023, Ukrainian agrarians exported products worth almost $22 billion. This is a very important signal to the world that Ukraine is ready to produce and deliver food to those who need it. Therefore, Ukraine’s role in global food security is extremely important. This is especially true when it comes to grain exports to Africa and Asia,” said Taras Vysotsky.
The Acting Minister said that the Ukrainian sea corridor shows good results. 87% of all agricultural products are exported from the ports of Greater Odesa.
In addition, Taras Vysotskyi noted that about 20 million hectares of agricultural land are used to grow grains and oilseeds. Of these, more than 13 million hectares are spring crops that are currently being sown.
“In general, in 2024, it is planned to sow enough grains and oilseeds to meet the domestic demand of Ukrainians and for export. Therefore, Ukraine will remain among the leading exporters of grains and oilseeds,” emphasized Taras Vysotskyi.
