Sunseed prices in Ukraine peaked and began to decline
Prices for sunflower seeds on the domestic market reached their maximum values and began to gradually decline. This was reported by an analyst and author of the blog “Analytical Loaf” in a comment to Latifundist.com.
According to him, before the holidays, sunseed prices dropped sharply – from about 28.5 thousand UAH/t to 25-26 thousand UAH/t SRT plant. Processors explained the decrease by military risks after shelling of oilseed facilities and the presence of sufficient coverage for raw materials.
“It is clear that no one in their right mind was going to sell sunseed at such prices. Moreover, most farmers can sell corn, and let the sunflower lie down,” the analyst notes.
After the holidays, against the background of low coverage of factories, growing demand for sunflower oil and peak values of the dollar exchange rate, the market began to recover. This led to a gradual return of prices to higher levels.
Holdings record large volumes (from 2-3 thousand tons) at prices of 30.2-30.5 thousand UAH/ton for 48-49% oil content.
Farms are currently selling medium-sized batches of sunflower seeds in the volume of 300-500 tons at prices of 28.8-29.6 thousand UAH/ton SRT-plant at a base oil content of 48%. With a higher oil content, prices exceed 30 thousand UAH/ton.
The market also records individual export deals – in particular, supplies to Bulgaria for $ 650-670/ton.
“We cannot say that this is directly profitable, some sellers are simply hedging their bets,” the analyst says.
He added that prices have approached maximum values. However, some factories today began to gradually lower their purchase prices for sunseed.
Further development of the grain and oilseed markets of Ukraine and the Black Sea region will be in the spotlight of the BLACK SEA GRAIN. KYIV conference, taking place on April 22–23 in Kyiv. The event will focus on strategic directions for the agricultural sector through 2030, including investments, energy independence, processing, and exports of high-value products.
