Sunflower seed becomes Moldova’s top export in the first half of 2026
Moldova’s exports exceeded 35 bln lei in January–June 2026, with sunflower seed becoming the country’s largest export commodity. According to the Customs Service, sunflower seed exports reached 4.9 bln lei. The top five export products also included wires and cables (4.7 bln lei), wheat (2.1 bln lei), corn (1.3 bln lei) and wine (1.2 bln lei).
The Customs Service said further export growth is being supported by the digitalization of customs procedures. Automated processing of export declarations allows documents to be submitted exclusively online, reducing average cargo clearance time to around 15 minutes without the direct involvement of a customs inspector.
