Soufflet Agriculture, one of France’s largest grain processors, expects the country’s 2026 soft wheat production to reach around 31.5–32 mln tons, down from 33.4 mln tons harvested last year. According to the company, weaker yields in western regions affected by drought and heat are being partly offset by better crop performance in northern and eastern France.

According to Soufflet’s Head of Procurement François Pignolet, the company had already harvested about half of its expected grain crop by July 1. Milling wheat quality has been strong, with protein content exceeding 11% and a test weight of around 79 kg/hl. Durum wheat has also shown excellent quality, with a test weight close to 80 kg/hl and protein levels ranging from 14.5% to 15%.

Soufflet also reported favorable results for the barley harvest. According to the company, this year’s crop is showing good malting quality, supporting prospects for the brewing industry.

As for rapeseed, Soufflet has already harvested around 60–70% of its expected crop. After weaker initial results, yields improved, allowing the company to revise its production outlook upward.

Soufflet now forecasts France’s 2026 rapeseed crop at 4.5–4.6 mln tons, nearly matching last year’s 4.6 mln tons. Earlier estimates had suggested production could fall to around 4.2 mln tons, but improved harvest results have led to a more optimistic outlook.
