Romania expects higher sunseed area and production, despite summer weather uncertainties
Article author:
Mixed weather conditions are noted in Romania for development of spring crops, including sunseed. Soil moisture stocks are sufficient at the major part of the country; however, their evaporation is going very fast. Local meteorologists forecast dryer weather pattern for the second half of this month.
Despite the high possibility of hot and rain-deficient summer, which is now almost usual each year in Romania, market does not expect significant decreases in the 2026 sunseed area.
Considering possible sunseed crop, Romanian 2026/27 sunseed export potential may be 100 KMT higher y/y, according to UkrAgroConsult. However, further estimates totally depend on summer weather in July-August and the timely rains needed for critical stages of sunseed development (pollination and grain filling).
