Pork in Argentina is almost half the price of beef
The price gap between beef and pork in Argentina continues to widen, reshaping consumer preferences. In August, the cost of 1 kg of roast beef was equivalent to 1.91 kg of pork belly.
On average in January-August, consumers could buy 1.99 kg of pork for the price of 1 kg of beef, up 30.7% from the same period in 2025. According to IPCVA, beef prices in August were up 51.8% year on year, while pork prices increased by 28.7%.
The gap with poultry was even wider. In August, the price of 1 kg of roast beef was equivalent to 3.57 kg of fresh chicken, while the average for the first eight months of the year reached 3.72 kg.
Higher beef prices are already weighing on consumption. According to CICCRA, per-capita beef consumption in August was around 46 kg per year, down 9.5% from a year earlier.
Amid high prices and weaker purchasing power, Argentine households are increasingly replacing beef with cheaper protein sources. Pork and poultry are strengthening their positions as more affordable alternatives in the domestic market.
