Pork exports from the EU increased by 1.6%

From January to July 2025, EU Member States exported a total of 2.44 million tonnes of pork to third countries, an increase of 1.6% compared to the same period the previous year. The largest volumes were exported to Spain, which increased its exports by approximately 8%, reaching 821,000 tonnes.

The Netherlands came in second with exports of 392,000 tonnes. Denmark exported 308,000 tonnes of pork to third countries, a decrease of approximately 13% compared to the previous year.

Germany exported 180,000 tonnes, an 18% decrease compared to the same period the previous year. This was primarily due to additional export restrictions caused by the foot-and-mouth disease outbreak earlier in the year. In addition to African swine fever-related bans, most of which have been in place since 2020, temporary import bans have also been in place, for example, by the UK and South Korea. German pork exporters are now allowed to export pork to the UK again, but the South Korean market is not yet open.

Looking ahead, China’s imposition of punitive tariffs is expected to impact EU export figures starting in September. For many years, China has been the largest buyer of EU pork, particularly pork offal, from January to July. From January to July, EU member states exported 655,000 tonnes of pork to China. Of this, approximately 389,000 tonnes were pork offal. The largest exporters to China were Spain, the Netherlands, Denmark, and France.
