Permit to import GM-soybeans into Russia extended for two years
The Russian government has extended the import permit for GM-soybeans for two years, provided that the products produced from them are exported.
The corresponding order was signed on May 8, 2026, and posted on the official legal information portal. It amends the government decree of June 12, 2025, which introduced this permit for one year from the date of its official publication.
This measure will reportedly “allow Russian enterprises to import and process soybeans containing genetically modified organisms registered for food purposes within Russia, while maintaining the ban on the use of finished feed for domestic consumption.” Processing can only be carried out for export deliveries, which will allow processing capacity to be utilized and contribute to an increase in export volumes.
According to experts in the oil and fat market, Russia’s need for imported soybeans, despite the growth of domestic harvests in recent years, exceeds 1 million tons per year.
