New association aims to grow Ukraine’s blueberry exports
Companies representing around 20 per cent of country’s production have formed a new organisation to develop the industry’s commercial interests
Several of Ukraine’s leading blueberry growers have created a new pan-industry association, as they look to grow the country’s share of an expanding international market.
Established on 14 February, the newly formed Ukrainian Blueberry Growers Association brings together experts and entrepreneurs with the common aim to develop their national blueberry sector, enhance the quality and export potential of its fruit, and to collaborate in areas such as cultivation, international distribution, and marketing.
The Kyiv-based group comprises sixteen companies – AE Zakhar-Sad, Agro Frutica Byshkiv, Agromix Zakarpattia, Artberry, Berry Hills, Blue Berry, Family Garden, Grass Avenue, Green, Laski, Nikdaria, Organic Garden, Orniberry, Tarasiv Obriy, Vian 2021, and Vitamin UA – and together they represent around 20 per cent of the country’s production, or roughly 850ha.

Despite the obvious disadvantage of having to contend with an armed conflict within its own borders following Russia’s invasion, the association’s president, Natalia Pukshyn of Blue Berry, says she believes Ukraine’s blueberry industry can take some important steps forward in the months and years ahead.
“The association’s first year of operation will take place in the midst of a full-scale war, which poses additional risks and challenges,” she tells Fruitnet. “The overall focus of the first year is to create a cohesive community of blueberry producers, armed with knowledge and tools for development, and to lay the foundation for the industry’s continued growth despite all challenges.”
Pukshyn’s work as association president will be supported by its executive director, Family Garden CEO Ivan Grechkivsky.
