Military escalation in the Black Sea has strengthened the role of logistics in European wheat pricing. UkrAgroConsult notes that export disruptions were rapidly reflected in both futures and physical markets.

Rising freight costs and the redirection of Ukrainian grain flows are reshaping regional competition. MATIF futures increased by almost EUR 25/mt, while Romanian wheat traded around USD 240–243/mt FOB.

Price movements indicate that logistics has become a key market driver, while market indicators highlight traders’ efforts to remain competitive despite higher transportation costs.

Weather conditions across the EU are providing additional support to wheat prices. The price charts illustrate a stronger upward trend together with elevated market volatility.

According to UkrAgroConsult, further market developments will largely depend on Black Sea logistics, the performance of Constanta port and the ability of global trade to adjust.

Key trends

  • Logistics remains the primary driver supporting European wheat prices.
  • Redirected Ukrainian exports are increasing pressure on neighbouring logistics infrastructure.
  • Freight costs are playing an increasingly important role in price formation.
  • Weather-related production risks continue to support the European wheat market.
  • Future market dynamics will depend on the balance between logistics, harvest prospects and global demand.
