Mice infestation threatens grain crops in Australia
Australian farmers report a large-scale invasion of mice, which causes significant damage to grain crops. This is reported by the BBC.
Farmers in Western and South Australia suffer the most from rodents. Mice massively destroy sown seeds, damage crops and penetrate into household premises.
According to farmers, this year’s situation is complicated by the fact that rodents are actively multiplying against the backdrop of favorable weather conditions and a significant amount of grain left after a record harvest.
Experts note that in some regions the number of mice reaches several thousand individuals per hectare, which significantly exceeds critical indicators.
To combat pests, farmers use poisoned baits and are forced to reseed damaged areas. In some areas, a gradual decrease in the rodent population is already being recorded after the cold snap and intensified control measures.
