MHP to open its first industrial-scale insect-based protein plant
MHP plans to launch its first industrial pilot plant for producing insect-based alternative protein at the end of the first quarter of 2026, according to Serhii Melnychuk, Advisor to the Chairman of the Board on Scientific Affairs and Academician of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine.
“We plan to open the first industrial-level plant next year at the end of the first quarter, though it will be a pilot facility. Biotechnology is demanding, and the only way to make it work is through deep knowledge,” Melnychuk said during the 6th International Conference on Soil Fertility Restoration.
The company notes that the world is facing a shortage of protein resources, environmental challenges, and depletion of natural stocks. A particular risk is the decline in fish catch used for the production of fishmeal — a key component in animal feed.
